Here's a little round up of some 4th of July treats I've made in the past. I thought they might be fun inspiration for you to make some special treats for your celebrations.

A few tips on the designs above...
For the ones with the multi color border I piped a stiff consistency icing around the edge of the cookie, then sprinkled some red, white and blue non pareil sprinkles on the line of (still wet) icing. After the border is dry (wait at least an hour, maybe more), fill in the center of the cookie with a flood consistency icing.
The designs on the star cookies were accomplished by adding either dots or lines or red and blue icing onto a base of (still wet) white icing. Then drag a toothpick any direction you want to create some fun designs.
Both of these Jello desserts involve layering any flavor of red jello, a layer of blue jello, and the layer in the middle is made by preparing a small box of lemon jello, put it in a bowl in the fridge until it thickens slightly and then fold (gently mix) in a 8oz. tub of Cool Whip.
Both the flag jello (above) and the layered cups (below) are topped with Cool Whip. I love real whipped cream for most desserts, but Cool Whip holds up much better in the heat, so it's more appropriate for these summer treats.

Oh wow! These are out of sight! Very creative. My favourite would be the cup with the strawberries on top. It inspires me for Bastille day, same colours non? :)

ReplyDeleteKatherine Sz- If you use one large box of red jello, one large box of blue jello and one small box of lemon jello along with one 8oz. tub of cool whip I'm guessing you'll get about 10-12 layered cups. Of course it also depends on what size your cups are.
I'd love to see a photo if you make it!

I will be doing another batch and this time I'll just do them all like these fireworks swirls! Love 'em! Thanks for sharing!

ReplyDeleteAnonymous- With each layer, let it set up before adding another layer. So, pour the red jello in all of your cups, then put them in the fridge. Wait 30-60 minutes or so, then make the lemon jello and set it in the fridge to start to thicken. When the lemon jello has thicken (maybe 20-30 minutes, sorry I don't remember for sure!) remove the lemon jello from the fridge and fold in the cool whip. By now hopefully your red jello layer is mostly solid, so add the lemon/cool whip layer. Let that set up for a while before adding the blue layer. Then, let it all set up before adding the finishing touch of cool whip and fruit or sprinkles.
